Same as Honey and Marj, I wouldn't take a plastic bag, unless I hadn't brought enough of my own with me. My mother always took her own bags shopping, in the days before there were plastic bags, and I thought it was a good idea. I abhor excessive packaging - I think ours will probably be the only generation when this ridiculous amount of packaging is tolerated.

Re: New Rules On 5p Plastic Carrier Bags

I haven't bought a plastic bag in years, the kind people in Waitrose exchange any torn thick plastic bags free of charge ( the original ones were given away free too) and the old bags are recycled.

For anything else I have a hessian shopping bag which I have had for years .

Re: New Rules On 5p Plastic Carrier Bags

We usually use cotton carriers when shopping but when our shopping is delivered it's not strange to see one item in each separate carrier bag ! I use them to line bins and carry dirty/clean washing to and from work so they get another use at least.

What will happen with the home delivery service? I can't see them charging for bags when you cannot use your own

I have Ocado delivery and I am wondering what will happen too. As Julie has said it's not unusual to have 1 or 2 items in a bad. They will take bags back on the next delivery for recycling. Ocado have the best bags, large and strong, with a number of uses.

Re: New Rules On 5p Plastic Carrier Bags

From the 5th October you will be charged 5p for each carrier bag in all supermarkets or shops exceeding 150 staff! so i advise save some up or carry two in your handbag not to get caught out.

What do you think to this?

Havent used them for years. I have cotton and sturdy big plastic bags for big shopping and carry a lightweight nylon one for odd bits...

In agreement with it . When I think of the millions I have thrown away , it will make me think twice now . Let's think of the planet for the future of our grandchildren .
