Re: Drs pay

I am under the impression that Drs want a higher rate of pay for the unsocial hours they do.If this is so then I am against it,a lot of people work shift work , but still get the same rate of pay per hour whether they work unsocial hours or not.Of course Drs should not be expected to work such long hoursit does no one any good, but niether should they expect time & half/ double pay if their shift took them into unsocial hours.

Re: Drs pay

The real question is what would we do without junior Dr's? Having recently been in hospital without them I no doubt would have been in a lot longer. How many owe their lives to them?
if they want or have to work extra hours it should be the same as in other industries, being paid time and a half at least, they are giving up their own time to help others be it unsocial hours or not.

I would rather they got a pay rise than civil servants who just sit on their backsides doing as little as possible.
Take for example these police overseers getting £64,000 a year for an unnecessary job.

The police overseer is not really apt to this thread, but I watched Question Time last night and the London crime commissioner is alleged to earn £400,000.
I find that hard to believe and haven't taken any steps to verify it.

on the same programme a female tory MP admitted that some junior doctors work a 91 hour week!
she justified it with the words
" they do not ask to work them hours and they are not forced to do it, its just the way it is. "

That was what I thought too until I listened to them, the media and government are doing a great job of making us think that.

The gentleman making the claims didn't do his homework.
The Lord Mayor of London does this job.
His salary is around £147,000
The commissioner of police ( chief constable ) gets £260,000.
