Poster "Doctor" beat me to it.

It's NOT the orange man that you position on the road, it is the little circle just beneath him. That circle HAS to be put over a road that Google knows about and such roads change colour when the circle hovers over them.

Nom, on Google maps Street view you can put a little man on a road and see it from his point of view. Sometimes he won't go onto the road you want because Google don't have photos of it. If it's very rural or a new road this usually happens and drives you nuts!

If blue line does not appear on the road you are hovering the little man over, there is no street view available, and you can't drop him on it.

That little man is like a council worker over here, you can take him to the road but you can’t make him work.
