I also had one when I was about 13 but decided it was time to meet girls and that was never going to happen wearing one of those.

Re: Fair Isle: The remote island where jumpers are always in fashion

We went to North Uist in summer last year. Lovely place, I can recommend it, but I was hoping to find either Fair Isle sweaters or something similar to keep me warm through the winter. Plenty of wool to buy - but I don't knit. A bit disappointed.

My mother was English (From Northamptonshire) She used to knit them. My brother, sister and I must have had 20 of them between us. Mostly sleeveless.

This thread is very disturbing. Brings back bad memories of fashion mistakes!

Nowadays:

Hand crafted in Fair Isle
100% Shetland wool
Hand wash only

£360
https://www.mativentrillon.co.uk/artisans

With just 55 residents, an ageing population and no new homes, Fair Isle’s artisan workforce and centuries-old skills are under extraordinary pressure. Only three artisan businesses currently craft authentic Fair Isle knitwear here.

After order, consultation, design and planning, it takes 18 hours to knit and hand finish a typical garment.

Tank Tops are a no no, especially with the Ladies LD, if you like wear your heart on your sleeve.

See what a handsome chap I was. It was the jumper and the staring into the distance wot spoilt it.

I wore my heart in my pants thereafter.

That sounded like it came from the Heart of your Bottom.
