Good for those parents. Informed choice is important and should never be removed.

Some facts:

Measles itself is fatal in only 1 in 10,000 cases and results in permanent injury in only 1 in 80,000 cases.

On the other hand, 1 in every 640 kids will end up with severe seizures as a result of having the MMR vaccine which is 5 times the rate that would get them from Measles itself.

The immunity gained from suffering measles and getting through it naturally is far superior to that of a vaccine.

Once you have the facts in front of you one can make an informed choice.

Re: 60 (mostly) Children Dead

Australia has eradicated measles since 2011 (I think it was) the only cases of measles in this country are people who catch it overseas and import it.

No, it was 2014.

https://www1.health.gov.au/internet/...ounce-2014.htm

On 20 March 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that measles elimination had been achieved by Australia, Macao (China), Mongolia and the Republic of Korea. These are the first countries or areas in the Western Pacific Region to receive this distinction.

Measles is a highly contagious and serious disease. Prior to widespread vaccination in 1980, globally, measles caused an estimated 2.6 million deaths each year.

The WHO has verified that Australia has no local strain of measles circulating in the community and that we have well-performing surveillance systems to rapidly detect and respond to measles cases.

The facts posted are not "my" facts. Your statement thus show ignorance of the situation. The facts come from reliable sources, a variety of government published reports, health service data and so on. Figures will vary across different parts of the world of course according to their overall levels of hygiene, access to good food and so on.

I have no problem if you personally wish to refute their data and thus refute the true facts, your prerogative but attempting to play them down as "my" facts is rather disingenuous.

Re: 60 (mostly) Children Dead

What a dangerous mob these anti vaxxers are with their mix of prejudice, anti science, populist half truths and cherry picked 'facts'.

70 people have been killed by measles in Samoa since October, and all but seven were aged under 15. Nearly 4,700 other Samoans have been infected all in a population of less than 200,000. (So much for the tin foil statistics)

In 2018, measles caused close to 142,000 deaths around the world and the United Nations' sees in Samoa's epidemic echoes of global problems.

Yet these anti vaxxers still babble predictably on.

Re: 60 (mostly) Children Dead

Death statistics will vary with each country according to its state of health and hygiene and access to basic medicines, healthy food, drink and vitamins.

Samoa's government has been criticised for failing to provide basic vitamins, failing to educate people on how to recognise symptoms and when they should quarantine their kids.

This is not a crisis caused by anti-vaxers at all imho. Samoa is a tiny little island off Australia. Do we really think these people are glued to laptops and computers reading debates on the MMR vaccine ??!

This is about a small island of people not managing cases of Measles, not quarantining kids and thus letting it spread around.

Again I understand that reading is probably not something you are familiar with but if you had bothered to read the articles previously quoted then you would know that, as usual, your opinion is not worth a pinch of sh!t because that is precisely what happened.

You would also know that one of your anti vaxxer colleagues has been arrested in Samoa for spewing out the same or similar ridiculous claims that you do (you both probably use the same Google keywords).

Measles is a highly contagious illness that causes coughing, rashes and fever.

Although effective and safe vaccination is available, even some developed countries have seen a resurgence in recent years as unfounded fears about vaccine safety began to spread, often on social media.

Who was arrested?

Mr Tamasese had spoken out against vaccines on Facebook, instead promoting using ineffective remedies such as papaya leaf extract to treat the deadly illness.

Before his arrest, he had described the government's mass vaccination programme as "the greatest crime against our people", and falsely claimed vitamin C could cure the infected children.

BTW Your geographic knowledge is about on par with your scientific knowledge. Samoa is 4550km from Australia, about the same distance as Kuwait is from London so presumably by your reckoning the state of Kuwait is just off the UK.
