So what benefit has membership of the EU been to us?

Other than championing the abolition of the gross overuse of agrochemicals just what actual benefit has the EC been for us?

Because I can't think of a single benefit that being taken over by the European Commission has resulted in to Joe Public in the UK and especially not as far as England is concerned.

Stuff that's hard to quantify, like employee rights and social conditions stuff.
Probably.

"Harmonised wire colours" was another stupid thing accepted here. For three phase it was simple. Red, yellow, and blue for the three live wires and black for the neutral. The it became brown, black, and grey with blue for the neutral. So, a conductor that had been neutral for decades became a live and one that had been a live became a neutral. Insanity.

Just to add to that, selling the old three phase cable here in UK became illegal yet I saw it still being installed in France where it was also illegal.

Those have hardly been a benefit in the overall scheme of things though.

Not just 3-phase. Twin and earth cables with red and black are no longer legal. The daft part about it was that flexes followed the new code a good ten years or so before cables did. Cable manufacturers were give a period of grace to re-tool the manufacturing process.

Did you come across the ultra-cheap Italian cables that were imported? Insulation on the conductors and sheath was virtually non-existent and wouldn't stand up to fault currents. They had a tendency to melt when under a short circuit. A good job that the powers that be introduced a British Standard for the manufacture and supply of cables.

`Harmonisation' was/is a total farce - if it's not broken, why fix it?

I totally agree. And, even worse, why convert a perfectly logical system into one that is potentially dangerous?
Madness.

That's a totally different matter.

We have a beautiful Nature Reserve, funded by the EU.
