Funerals

Bit of a downer sorry.

We've put money aside for our funerals and have looked around at prepaid plans etc. Nothing comes in below £3000 each until we noticed a service most funeral directors offer but don't advertise. It's hard to even get them to talk about them !

At less than a £1000 sometimes as cheap as £330 depending on your area and cost of burial or cremation plots.

It's called a direct funeral.

The only down side is you don't get to attend the service.

The funeral is done privately but with respect. A few weeks later you get to collect the ashes and can then have whatever service you wish as a rememberance and at a cost you can afford.

We are seriously thinking about it as we aren't sentimental after a person dies, being at the funeral isn't what matters to us a party and disposal of ashes later is always the focal point of our way we grieve. Celebrate the life lived with a party for them, then scatter ashes somewhere they loved in life.

I know this won't be of interest to many but if like us you really don't mind not having that traditional service if it means a saving of well over £2000 on each of us, it might just help you find a deal you can live with.

Re: Funerals

It's something I am seriously considering but not because of saving money. I've been to funerals where you wonder if the person taking the service is talking about the deceased. I want to be sent off with no fuss whatsoever and my family can scatter my ashes or not, whatever they choose to do will be fine with me.

Re: Funerals

Yes saving money is only part of the reason, when we had tashas funeral we were left wondering if the person we knew and loved was one they had spoken about.

Re: Funerals

That sounds excellent Julie. I have it in my will that there is to be no funeral whatsoever for me. Just a straight forward cremation dealt with by the undertakers, and no ashes afterwards. My family are well aware of my wishes.

Re: Funerals

I think I'm in the fortunate position of having a lady funeral director living in the house directly opposite me, so yes a direct cremation without any service whatsoever is a fabulous idea.

Re: Funerals

I've recently paid for a funeral plan for direct disposal after a lot of research ... it's cost £1,215.00 which will be held in a whole of life assurance policy plus £450.00 administration fee.

My daughter is shocked at my decision but it's my choice ... I came into this world without a fuss and that's the way I want to leave.

Here's the link to the company I've opted for .. they seem to be the only one who do pre-paid direct disposal plans ...

Re: Funerals

It's not for everyone I readily admit and if people want a bigger affair that's their choice. I was posting just to alert anyone like me hadn't realised we could get a cheaper deal.
