A Poem-"The Over 50's Forum"

I decided to write a poem for you mob,its different to other poems here because I designed it to be a group exercise,so I have started it with 3 verses, you can feel the rhyme and metre of the poem by my verses,I will explain a poems structure in a seperate thread,I will explain rhyme and metre and what a "foot" is,I want everyone here, every member if they want to,or if they can, to write one verse each, and only one verse each, anyone writes more than one verse i will ask admin to delete it,so lets be fair, just follow my flow or beat, keep it at 8 lines per verse, its very easy, one verse each,no more,no less, easy to do,will keep your minds occupied, so start writing please.:lo l:

THE OVER 50's FORUM

Well I joined an English forum,
Over 50's was it's name,it was
loaded with old fossil's,most of
whom were getting lame.
For old age had swooped upon
them, and it took em by suprise'
and they needed a new outlook
for their imminent demise!

There are lots of members in here,
some are good and some are bad,
for this secret world,the internet,
is a refuge when the're sad.
But it can't always be gloomy,
sometimes clouds,and then blue
skies,so they type out posts at
breakneck speed,in anonymous
disguise!

But who are these people really?
I don't know,and neither you,they
have names that sound outlandish,
but they really sound untrue, but it
fills an empty vacant space, for life
just seems so glum,so they type
and post whilst sitting down on
old bones cold and numb!

Re: A Poem-"The Over 50's Forum"

If you feel embarressed then don't,we are anonymous people, that is the reason i did this, you can make your verse a personal account of you or your life, people and pets, where you live etc!

If you want i can start it for you? I can give you the first two lines, give it a go,you just may suprise yourselves and everyone else, its good for your brain and wellbeing, plus, you can tell other members about your life and circumstances, and how you really feel, try it?

A forum with pretending pals
Whom some consider “mates”
Can oft disguise an emptiness
That being alone creates.

Instead of socialising, chats,
We type into a screen
Discussing worries, hobbies, cats
To strangers all unseen.

I like to think net friends are real
but some of them are not,
for who am I to know
if they really care a jot?
It doesn't matter really though,
for whether friends false or true
can just be the same in real life
depending on your view.

And on a not dissiimilar theme ....

CAREFUL CHAT.COM

If you’re ever in a forum
Full of people, all with views
And you’re asked to form a quorum
Or sit mutely– would you choose?

Are you loth to raise a topic
That you may consider rude?
Would it make you misanthropic,
Ill advised, or merely lewd?

Do you itch to know an answer
That some others dare not mention?
Can you bring up things like cancer
Without it causing tension?

Do we outgrow inhibitions
As we outgrow worn out clothes?
Or stick to old traditions
Play safe – tread on no toes?

If you’re ever in a forum
Full of people, all with views
My advice is, show decorum –
Or face pages of abuse!

Re: A Poem-"The Over 50's Forum"

and on the dubious charms of Internet dating ...

Love.com

Love.com on line for sale,
A disembodied coldly lust,
That does remotely then entrust
Such covert dreams, with hopes that must
Inevitably turn to dust.
Love.com for those without
The skills, the sureness to entrance;
When face-to-face then to advance
And put in place the flirting glance
That surely starts the mating dance.
Love.com, a dream, a myth -
Symbiosis of two minds;
Tap-tapping lies, half truths and blinds,
Anonymity then finds
The wheel of love that slowly grinds.
From coast to coast, across the globe,
Long distance love for those on line.
Harlequin and Columbine
Can facelessly and sadly sign
Their love-com "your Valentine

Eccles, did you not read the opening paragraph to this thread?
Its not about you,its not a platform for you? its a thread for all members to write one 8 line verse to a very long epic poem?

You want to start your own thread then do it,do not spoil it for others, which you have already done by being a very selfish person, you know the rules to the thread so why upset the flow, you are a [mod edit: personal insult removed]!

Re: A Poem-"The Over 50's Forum"

I met a man on a forum and we got along just fine
We've been meeting almost 2 yrs now
but afraid a couple we'll never be
cos there's a problem or two you see
I'd lose my widows pension
and he's showing signs of dissention
So only a part time Valetine is he .
