Butter anyone?

I have always avoided 'spreads' which looked to be full of artificial rubbish to me preferring instead to stick to eating small amounts of butter (and olive oil for cooking).

It seems a Cardiologist is now saying the same thing..

Butter, cheese and even red meat are not as bad for the heart as has been maintained, a cardiologist has said in a leading medical journal, adding that it is time to "bust the myth" of saturated fat.

Aseem Malhotra, interventional cardiology specialist registrar at Croydon University hospital, London, also argues that statins have been over-prescribed because of the government's obsession with lowering cholesterol in an attempt to reduce heart disease – and that the side-effects outweigh the benefits for millions of people who take them every day.

and even the The Nursing times' has a headline..
''Saturated fat good for you, expert claims''
23 October, 2013 | By The Press Association.

Eating saturated fat is good for you and can actually help protect against heart disease, one of the UK’s leading cardiologists has claimed.

Re: Butter anyone?

I saw this headlined in the Telegraph this morning and meant to buy the paper to have a read - but been chasing my tail for a couple of days and I forgot to buy it.

I can't say I'm surprised at the findings though - it seems to be a regular pattern now: don't eat this/do that because it's bad for you; (ten years later) we've changed our minds, it's actually really good for you.

Crikey.

Probably not because they have to add oil to make it spreadable. Just a guess though.

Hi there - I have long held the opinion that if it's natural, it's probably okay; if it's been artificially manufactured, it probably isn't - but who knows nowadays

Re: Butter anyone?

Thanks for the links Meg, we only have butter too.
I did buy the 'other' stuff years ago but we dislike it.
Quite reassuring to see it in black and white.

I am fed up of that THEY say, I eat what I like and am still fit and
healthy as I refuse to get wrinkles on what other people think.
Please yourself is what I say. Butter forever.

Patsy it's no problem really , put a bit of butter in a dish/heat your knife in a mug of hot water/use it to mash up the butter.

Better still use a butter dish and just put in a small amount in and leave it out of the fridge.
