Motor bikes & side cars.

Why don't we see motor bikes with side cars anymore?
Have they been banned because of some safety issue I wonder?

I don't know for sure but I doubt it. They were the form of family travel when cars were out of the reach of normal families.

These days they are irrelevant and just manage to combine the worst features of a motorbike with the worst features of a car - like those absurd three wheel motor bikes or to a lesser extent those almost equally absurd three wheel cars.

Re: Motor bikes & side cars.

We had some great outings to Derbyshire on a Sunday afternoon when we were kids riding in my dad's Watsonian sidecar fixed to his 600cc Panther sloper. Three kids, dog and picnic in the sidecar and mum and dad on the bike, great days indeed and, as I remember, always sunny.......

I wouldn't want to go in a sidecar nowadays with the mad
drivers around. In my mind the sidecar would be your coffin
for real.
Have seen a bike with a coffin on the side realspeed and that also
was a funeral directors. On the M1 a few months ago.

Re: Motor bikes & side cars.

It was the Mini that sounded the death toll for motorbikes and sidecars. When that came along, the average family man could afford a 4 wheeled car.

They are still around, and like trikes (3 wheeled motorbikes) and even some other mostly classic 3 wheelers, ridiculously good fun to ride/drive.
