Re: Smoking in cars.

Enacting a bad law that the majority of the public doesn't support only encourages minor law-breaking and a general lessening of support for law itself. Look at our experiment here with Prohibition .....

And do we really want the police out ready to nab Aunt Sally having a smoke in her car, or catching the mugger waiting down by the car park ......???

Re: Smoking in cars.

Exactly, Eileen. The police are there to fight crime, not catch people having a smoke within their own personal environment.

Re: Smoking in cars.

They banned the use of mobile phones whilst driving and it still goes on, how are they going to enforce a smoking ban?
Stupid dogooders, why can they not get on with their own lives and let people live how they want to.

Having said that I think smoking is a bad thing but hey, everyone has the right to choose how they want to die.

Re: Smoking in cars.

I am not anti smoking (i dont smoke myself), but i do not allow anyone to smoke in my house or my car.
There are for and against this one about stopping people smoking in their own cars. We have followed people as they have swerved across the road, and we have commented that they are reaching to light their cigs.
The police have not managed to stop people using their mobile phones in their cars so how are they going to stop people smoking?

Re: Smoking in cars.

I don't think I mentioned this before, but reading what Shirley has posted I should make a point of saying that I never light a cigarette whilst driving. If I want one, I pull into a lay-by or something to light up.

Also, if I'm in the home or car of a non-smoker, I would never dream of smoking as that would be just bad manners.

Re: Smoking in cars.

I did the same also.Mollie. If they smoked in the car then I felt free to do so, if not, no. My non-smoking friend on the long drive to the beach would usually stop half way there so I could step out and have a cigarette.
