The End of Free Banking?
The EU wants to impose charges on the use of debit and credit cards (probably to bring Britain into line with the rest of Europe):http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/eu-...182617549.html
How do you feel about that?

Or would you start paying cash again?
Or not mind the charges?

I already have to pay charges on certain things on line. When I buy a train ticket or a hotel they charge for certain cards. £2.I would be annoyed if they charged me Can anyone remember donkey years ago when nobody told us what we had to do every 5 minutes. I

There has been a tax on bank cards over here for years, I never use them but the last I heard it was 50 euros a year, probably more now. We also have the highest rate of VAT in Europe.I never have any dealings with banks, I use cash and the post office for larger transactions. The wife uses the bank and is always complaining about it, but you pay your money and make your choice.

Yes I will mind the charges.The bank already makes interest on my account because I am always in credit with sufficient cash in there to pay a months worth of bills and a have surplus ensuring I never go overdrawn.
I hardly ever use cheques and bank online transferring money electronically or by DD which costs the bank very little in terms of effort.

We pay most of our bills online or by dd. But there are still a couple that we have to pay over the counter and get charged for it. I object to that. So if you are then going to be charged for using a debit card to pay for these bills online - big style will be annoyed.
