Re: Senior Home Office official QUITS after vicious rows with Priti Patel

By Rob Powell, political correspondent

Loyalty and "political stock" once again proving to be the ultimate currency in Boris Johnson's administration.

This was supposed to be reset week.
But after five days of policy and positive news on COVID vaccines, a familiar cloud of controversy and criticism has descended on Downing Street.

It's resulted in the prime minister's adviser on ministerial standards walking out after Boris Johnson publicly disagreed with his conclusions.

Sir Alex Allan - a widely respected civil servant with decades of experience - had found that the home secretary had broken the rules.

The prime minister thought otherwise, reaching the conclusion that there were mitigating factors such as Priti Patel's lack of awareness about the impact her behaviour was having.

Coming weeks after the resignation of a chief legal officer over concerns that ministers planned to break international law concerning Brexit, this is another dent in the side of the received Westminster wisdom of how governments operate.

I remember having to get a "Fully Skilled" Electrical Union Certificate in order to work at AEI.

Quite a few days off on strike!

Maggie saw what was happening! (Thanks Maggie).

With a bit of luck, the CS will be all "Artificial Intelligent" robots before long.

(No doubt there will have to be a setting for "left" or "Right" when they do - and in the Beeb!)

LOL! Ted, quite a humerous post if l may say so and spot on except
for the maggie comment??
Imo she was guilty of ethnic cleansing when she destroyed the
unions? ( allthough it needed doing!)

Just like Bercow's farce, the Priti Patel non-event just reeks of sour grapes desperation on the part of a few stragglers who refuse to accept change.

I'm afraid you've lost me there.
How is dealing with over-powerful trade unions ethnic cleansing?

We still have some of the most destructive trade unions. Look at the London Underground drivers who are paid far more than they're worth bearing in mind that on some lines they are completely unnecessary!

Unions were absolutely essential a hundred years ago, but today?

Priti Patel praises 'brilliant civil servants' in first televised comments after bullying report apology

https://news.sky.com/story/priti-pat...ology-12137383

Priti Patel has praised "brilliant civil servants" in her first televised comments since being forced to apologise over bullying allegations.

The home secretary said she was "sorry that my behaviour has upset people", adding that she had "never intentionally set out to upset anyone".

She continued: "I work with thousands of brilliant civil servants every single day and we work together, day in, day out, to deliver on the agenda of this government.

"And I'm absolutely sorry for anyone that I have upset."
Blimey ..... no wonder she's often invisible - she's working "with thousands of brilliant civil servants every single day" - she can't have a second to herself ......

..... and she's very, very sorry for upsetting them all .....

A leopard can't change its spots .....

Not should she try too. This obviously a political apology and on that I sincerely hope she did not mean.

Go, Priti - go and continue draining the Civil Service swamp.

Re: Senior Home Office official QUITS after vicious rows with Priti Patel

I see this as sections/groups/individuals within the civil service trying their best to get rid of people who have come in and rocked the boat. Cummings said he was going to tackle the civil service, he's gone, Patel when appointed went in and told them who's boss, a snivelling senior civil servant cried and left claiming he was being bullied and now the civil service gang are trying to find ways of getting rid of Patel so the civil servants can go back to the way it was.

I long for the day when Civil Servants are in post to advise their ministers and to follow their considered instructions.

They may hold their own opinions, but these must hold absolutely no weight other than being advisory.

If Civil Servants feel that they have the right to make political decisions, then they are in the wrong job.
