Re: Senior Home Office official QUITS after vicious rows with Priti Patel

WE don't know all the circumstances leading to his resignation. It could even be down to racial discrimination bullying or anything.
Until we get to find out what has been going on I don't think it is fair to blame one person or the other..

All I can judge by is we had a lady very similar in BT and her attitude was less than pleasant to say the least, and she also was high up in the company

Just about everything that gets posted on here could qualify for that description, it doesn't appear to have prevented anyone from voicing their opinions though.

The Electorate will have the final say on government policies at elections and if they don't like them they will kick them out.

No doubt he will find a sympathetic judge, who will award him a huge sum of money. After all judges are civil servants too.

The whole system needs to change and the sooner the better.

You got it right on the nail RM, and this wont be the last one either!
This government wants things to happen but is being hamstrung
by a civil service that only knows one speed, ( dead slow! )
This bloke now seems to have cracked up because Pritti put some
pressure on to get some results?
Maybe we will see some some positive changes throughout the
whole establishment soon, but l dont think it will be blodless!

PS. Good for Pritti!

Hi

I have a different perspective.

You are employed to give professional advice to your Political Masters.

You are also employed to find ways of putting their Policies into practice, whether you like them or not.

You are not there to obstruct them, you are not elected, they are.

There will be times when your Political Masters demand things that cannot be done.

Sometimes this is because they are illegal and you tell them that they have the power to change the law and you tell them how it needs to be changed to achieve their objectives.

That is their job, not yours.

Most of the time it is simple, basic things.

Time and money.

Yes, you can do this but it will take x amount of time and x amount of money.

Unfortunately some Ministers are unrealistic, they do not have a Magic Wand.

Yes we can control our Borders, it really is very simple to do so.

It is not rocket science.

We cannot do it by 1st January next year.

The Ports and Airports need to build the Infrastructure

You cannot just tell them to do it, they have said get stuffed, we are not paying for it, you are.

You do not have a Budget for it.

You will need X amount of new trained staff to do this.

You do not have a Budget to do this.

Find the money and it can be done.

Now the crunch bit.

We are going for autonomy, rejecting any involvement of the ECJ.

This means no access to EU databases, so we will not be able to check the Criminal Databases.

There is another matter Minister.

The French are being French, it is what they do.

No access to our fisheries, they will move the Border back to the UK.

This what happens with Ministers.

Pritti is a nightmare, but better than May.

If Abbott had become Home Secretary it would not be just the Boss who resigned.

There would be Mass resignations.

Your list consists of obstacles Swimmy, it should consist of ways to deliver the result
requested by the minister?
When a person has been in a cushy well paid job for 33yrs they tend to become set in
their ways and reluctant to consider new ways to do things , and faster?
Little things like when passing a task from one stage to another, letting the paperwork
lay in the pidgeon hole for3 or4 days before expaditing it? Donkeyman!

There are more ways to kill a cat than kicking it up the arse.

I think you may have missed Swim's point that some ministers are unrealistic and do not have a magic wand. Individuals elected on the basis of personality and promises don't always value or understand long term consequences and due process. They must work within a controlled system otherwise their actions (guided by self interest and political ego) will upset other parts of the system and other government policy. They may end up duplicating effort and creating their own little empires. There are checks and balances in our systems for good reason.

I get swimmies and your point Annie, that the existing empires of
the mandarins resent any efforts of a fresh empire getting established
on their turf??
