Boris Johnson to appoint Cummings ally as chief of staff

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...4.html?r=78835

Former tabloid journalist who worked on Vote Leave campaign tipped for post

Lee Cain would be promoted to the role from director of communications - having previously served alongside Dominic Cummings in the ultimately successful campaign to see Britain leave the EU.

His rise to the top would see him join Mr Cummings in the PM’s inner circles of most senior aides, alongside Lord Udny-Lister - who Mr Johnson worked with during his time as Mayor of London.

The move is reported to be part of a plan to limit the number of people with direct access to the prime minister*, the paper added - and Mr Cain’s ascension would ensure Brexit backers make up much of the group dealing directly with Mr Johnson.
This is The Dome's attempt to create a "presidential" PM, excluding many of his ministers and all of the Houses of Parliament who aren't the PM's (or DC's) "friends" .....

A question: Has this person actually been appointed?
Another question: If you were in charge would you not want those you trust working for you?

I see Cummings as being very much a latter-day Brendan Bracken.

Laura Kuenssberg

As news of this potential appointment emerged, so did consternation among some MPs, some ministers, and other insiders in government. The prime minster's fiancée, Carrie Symonds, is understood to be unhappy about it and has made that clear. The new press spokesperson, Allegra Stratton, whose appointment created some tension with Mr Cain, is also thought to believe it would be a mistake to give him the position. And his influential policy adviser, Munira Mirza, is also though to be against.

An insider suggested: "Boris is a brave chap to do something that his leading ladies are not thrilled about", while a Cabinet minister sniped: "He is hardly Leo McGarry" - a reference to the fictional chief of staff figure in The West Wing, the US political drama that nearly everyone in SW1 is obsessed with.

I shall call him "Half-Dome" (or perhaps "Little Dome") .....

Ooh the anti-lot are getting riled about a "potential" aren't they?

Again; "If you were in charge would you not want those you trust working for you?"
Judging by reactions I'd like to see all the top jobs accross government and the civil service devoted to such conscientiously devout believers in Brexit.
Their turning so apopletic at such appointments can only mean that it is a good thing.

It seems that the ladies' objections prevailed:

Lee Cain: Senior Johnson adviser to leave Downing Street

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-54907188

Boris Johnson's director of communications, Lee Cain, is to resign amid reports of internal tensions in No 10. The BBC understands that he will be replaced by James Slack, currently No 10's chief spokesman.

In a statement, Mr Cain said it had been a privilege to work for Mr Johnson for the last three years.
So, Little Dome has not been brought in but, in fact, kicked out ..... blimey wotta turnup guvner an no mistake .....

In other words a thread about nothing.
A non-event.
Hilarious!

Re: Boris Johnson to appoint Cummings ally as chief of staff

The only question I have is as to who will pay his salary? Can't be the civil service, since it's not up to the PM to promote people in it. So, must be the Tories from their own funds.
