HURT them? You MUST be joking! Moreover there certainly no NEED to trade with anyone.

China could rebuild the Wall and close all ports and would not be "hurt" in the least!

Obviously there would be a need to refocus industries but only refocus.

The agriculture sector would need some rejigging but there is absolutely NOTHING that China is totally dependent on.

China does not have an abundance of natural resources to be 'self sufficient'. It does not have enough land to produce crops to feed it's people if it closed off all trade with the world. Yes there would be a lot of 'rejiggling' as you call it but it would still mean millions of Chinese dying due to an increase in impoverished conditions.

China could survive if the 'tap' was to be turned off but at what cost to human life?

It does not matter what China say's about the virus coming from one of the 'wet markets' in Wuhan, Hubei province because the majority of people in the world will not believe them due to the fact that in Wuhan, Hubei province is one of China's top bio tech labs which has the highest bio-safety level of 4 which means it is allowed to work on some of the worlds most deadliest virus and diseases known to mankind.

And it just so happens that a new very deadly strain of human coronavirus (there are known to be 7, convid-19 making it 8th) appears in Wuhan, Hubei province in December of 2019. Something that it transpires that the Chinese government tried to cover up by making all the doctors who discovered the outbreak 'disappear'. The actions of the Chinese government are very dubious and considering the virus went beyond it's borders and turned into a pandemic killing thousands of people means other countries around the world have the right to investigate China. China will of course refuse any such attempts because the communist ruling party will not allow itself to lose face and thus will deny everything and anything.

There is more and more compelling evidence now that this virus came from a lab in Wuhan.

Obviously there would be changes to everyday life in the new cities but not the collapse that we would face if the export of raw materials let alone low cost high tech and very high quality finished goods.

As for millions of fatalities, nah. China is HUGE and plenty big enough to get on just fine albeit with a bit of rejigging and some changes to the urban / rural way of life but on Ballance the various Chinese people would cope just fine.
