I can't remember the details, it was several years ago. After I read that, I sat and commiserated with her for while, with just a sheet of plate glass between us.

Really makes me so angry- the animal was depressed long enough for the zoo to print guide notes about it!
Heavens- orangutans are close enough to homo sapiens to be able to remediate that depression- company, entertainment. mental stimulation. It must have been painful not to be able to reach through the glass and hold hands.
Damn - it makes me depressed thinking about it.

They were doing lots about it. As I said, it was a while ago and I don't remember the details.
The info was in a blurb at the side of the glass, and could be amended quickly when necessary, not in a printed guide book or anything....sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

Please don't worry..... the orangutan was extremely well looked after, believe me, and everything was being done that could be done.

Yes, I did want to reach through the glass and give her a hug. In the end I just sat there next to her and put my palm up against the glass and hoped that would be recognised as an understanding gesture.
