The report that I read said they had a bat virus, that could not attach to human proteins & changed it so that it now could. It sounds like the reporter & the lady on loose women were both giving the same story, so makes me think it is likely to be true!

But why I wonder, Twink?

What is the point in making a virus that could not attach to humans, so what else could it be used on - unless perhaps it was an antidote for something else they had created?

Maybe I was right when I said I reckon they already had a vaccine for themselves only, before this thing 'escaped.'
It's all mighty strange.

I don't blame our government, and we don't know what have found out yet, and no country dare accuse the Chinese without evidence, and that sure won't be easy.

Which one of the 246 comments?

I went past that and resisted the urge to click on the clickbait ads "try this tonight if you have toe fungus" (picture of someone with mushrooms between their toes), or the one of boxes of vaseline with the banner "80 items that are dangerous after they expire" - intriguing that one!

Anyway it doesn't appear she was ever working in Wuhan.

Who? Dr.Li?

Where did you read that Annie?

Not sure, but didn't she say she was working elsewhere, some institute, but got called in to the Wuham lab to identify a virus?

I read she was working in Hong Kong. The articles all point to her never being in Wuhan :

She is basing her claims on clinical / scientific interpretation of the genetics of the virus.

Yes, it says the Hong Kong School of Public Health.
So what did you mean about her not working at the laboratory, when she never said she was?

I might be wrong, but I understood she was only there because she got called in to identify the new virus, she didn't work there permanently. Or maybe I've misunderstood?

We might find out more in due course - unless she 'disappears' in the not too distant future.

She did research while working for Hong Kong university. The information she is giving seems to be word of mouth as she was investigating the virus so she was in contact with scientists and doctors in mainland China. There is nothing to confirm she was based in Wuhan. She said she can evidence this using the genome sequence. However, all the other scientists in the world have the genome sequence. A Norwegian/ British research also claimed the same but withdrew after peer review. There are spikes in the genome that they interpreted as man made changes but on peer review it was acknowledged that these can be caused by mutations (as this has been seen in other viruses).

Whatever the truth Covid is certainly an oddity.

I'm keeping an open mind, maybe it was lab derived, maybe natural, either way to me it matters not because we need to deal with the problem and "nuking China" won't help us with that...

Re: An alarming interview about Covid

The main thing she was accused of was claiming that the Chinese government covered up the severity and seriousness of the virus. Perhaps they did so internally but I definitely remember hearing of it pretty soon after 31st Dec. Most of the world wasn't worried because it seemed confined to China. We'd heard about SARs and bird flu so we all assumed this would be the same.

Re: An alarming interview about Covid

Wiki says:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li-Meng_Yan

Li-Meng Yan (simplified Chinese: 闫丽梦; traditional Chinese: 閆麗夢) or Limeng Yan, is a Chinese virologist and whistleblowerwho says that the Chinese government and the World Health Organization knew about person-to-person transmission of COVID-19 much earlier than reported.

Background

Yan received her MD degree from Xiangya Medical College of Central South University, China, and her PhD from Southern Medical University, China. Her research includes the study of "The inhibition effect of propranolol on the corneal neovascularization in an alkali-induced injury mouse model." At the time of the COVID-19 pandemic she was employed at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, Hong Kong University, conducting research specialised in virology and immunology.

COVID-19

Yan claims that she was one of the first scientists in the world to study the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, after Dr. Leo Poon, her supervisor at the Hong Kong University (a WHO reference lab), asked her to look into a cluster of SARS-like cases in Wuhan, in December 2019. According to Fox News, Yan maintained an extensive network of medical professionals from mainland China, one of whom told Yan about human-to-human transmission of the novel disease on December 31, 2019. According to Yan, she reported her findings about the virus multiple times to her superiors, including one on January 16, after which she says she was warned by her supervisor "to keep silent and be careful."

In interviews with Fox News, Yan accused the Chinese government of knowing about the novel coronavirus before it publicly said that it did and said that lives could have been saved if they had not censored her work. Yan fled for the United States on April 28 with what she said was her intention of delivering "the message of the truth of COVID" .
Yan's interviews and accusations were subsequently cited in other media outlets.
From the article, it appears that Yan's "findings" were the result of rumour and not research.

Also, there is no indication that she ever contacted any US scientific/medical institute with her "findings" for them to analyse but, instead, went to Fox News which then fed the "story" to the world.

I'm suspicious, too, about the "wait" from April until July for Yan's "revelations" to what, AFAIK, is Donald Trump's favourite TV channel .....

"she killed a hamster" makes it difficult to take this seriously.

The "Chinese Coronavirus" thread was started by Donkeyman on 20/1 and the first link to news was on 21/1:

New China virus: Warning against cover-up as number of cases jumps

China's top leaders have warned lower-level officials not to cover up the spread of a new coronavirus that has now infected nearly 300 people.

Anyone who concealed new cases would "be nailed on the pillar of shame for eternity", the political body responsible for law and order said.

The warning came as state media said 6 people had now died from the virus, which causes a type of pneumonia.
Your first post was on 22-01-2020

Mine was on 23-01-2020

At that time, some posters were "not worried at all" because they'd "been through all this scaremongering before and it’s come to nothing".

While I was not "personally" worried I was concerned that "as the world becomes inundated with travellers (on Friday 29 June 2018 Swedish flight monitoring service FlightRadar24 tracked 202,157 aircraft with 19,000 flights in the air at the same time during a peak period), the transmission of any virus is fast, wide and unstoppable".

It all seems such a long time ago .....
