Workwear

If you still work..
Do you have to wear a certain type of clothing or uniform?
And if you no longer work.. What did you wear?

I have to be fairly smart especially on Oarents' Evening days but being an Art and Design teacher I can probably get away with more than most in the more "casual" stakes.

I wish I had an allowance though because although I wear an apron most days some clothes have been ruined by glue or clay or paint pigment

Re: Workwear

I have to wear a uniform at my office job and I hate it. It's black everything and I really don't like wearing black as it makes me feel drab.

Black pants, black polo shirt with company logo on and black shoes.

I've just taken a second job on in a fish shop to aid funds and I have to wear a black and white tabbard and a silly hat.

I would have thought you could claim for protective clothing against tax.

Well, I needed a special item of clothing, and I could.

I think it has to be something that is either protective, and you have a valid reason for that, or an item of clothing that you would only wear in the work environment, like a uniform or something.

Try it and see. You'd need receipts.

Doubt it, you usually have to be self employed. If employed directly, you employer should supply protective clothing, and duly make any claim.

Re: Workwear

Smart-casual was expected for work but I remember we were asked to wear a jumper with the Radio Rentals logo on it at one time.

A small claim on the tax form was allowable for clothing. The job was hard on trouser knees and sometimes, spits up the back seam. Most embarrassing when that happened in peoples houses.

When I was self employed, I still dressed smart-casual and have worn the same kind of clothes for the years since then, except on the occasions that require a suit.

Re: Workwear

I don't have a uniform, just a corporate expectation. So I try to have a minimalist working wardrobe which is a bit like a self-imposed uniform. I have my work shoes and work outfits which do not mix with my leisure clothes. I have generic work outfits planned so that I do not have to worry about what to wear each day. It's the ironing that's a challenge.
