Re: At What Point Do You Suddenly Become An Old Person?

Yes, I undertand what Robert means by invisible.

I think feeling old has a lot to do with how other people see you and relate to you. Over the last couple of years I have found that when I say some things to younger people some have started saying "ah bless" and I hate it. It is usually younger women and it makes me wonder if I am starting to look like a little bewildered old lady - it's so patronising.

Also, the aches and pains start to limit how much you can do. At one time I never used to think about getting tired or aches and pains, but now I do. I find I have to gear myself up by taking pain killers before I tackle anything challenging. Perhaps I shouldn't, but it's the only way I can keep going sometimes. Usually one dose of tramadol and some paracetamol will be enough to hold the aches and pains at bay for a couple of days, allowing me to do what I want to do, but the pains always come back.

Re: At What Point Do You Suddenly Become An Old Person?

Hi

It depends on what Government or NHS Department you are dealing with.

I was still working when I was 60 and having NHS Help for my PTSD.

I was immediately passed to the Elderly Team.

I was officially old, more bothered if I could wipe my bum and wash myself.

The Job Centre was bothered because I was not working and under 65.

I had to register because of certain weird things, absolutely stupid.

When I was 65 my reduced earnings allowance was reduced by 2/3rds and replaced by Old Age Pension.

I am still on the reserve list, so have to go back until December this year.

Then I suppose, I will be officially old.

Welcome to the madness which is the UK.

My body may be old but my brain is still very active so I do not class myself as old, and by the way I still have a twinkle in my eye when a good looker is around
Good for you Ben.

When all the biscuits in the tin taste the same and that jar of Nescafe you bought eight years ago, has turned into a solid lump.

When a bloke says "Hello beautiful", and he talking to your dog.

Or . . you start too many sentences with - "Do you remember when . . . "

Re: At What Point Do You Suddenly Become An Old Person?

We might like to think we aren't getting old, but anyone who has ever thought 'that wasn't how we did it in my day' or similar, I'm very much afraid, is, probably, getting on a bit!

I think what made me realise that I might be getting older, was the realisation that 18-20 year olds don't actually know as much as I do!

Life experience, and all that!
