No7 is hard to guess as i have never heard the saying heres a big clue to help you.

Scold harshly or punish severely; also, put a stop to something.

Put a stop to something could suggest something like ... lowering the Boom. As in a car park.?

7. Lower the boom ..... correct

If you're caught smoking in school, the principal is bound to lower the boom on you, or The new radar equipment enabled the police to lower the boom on speeding.

this round is now finished

Re: Picture word game 28

Lower the boom.......

"This expression refers to the boom of a sailboat—a long spar that extends from the mast to hold the foot of the sail. In a changing wind, the boom can swing wildly, leaving one at risk of being struck. [Slang; first half of 1900s]"

Then I wondered why the phrase was "lower the boom" and not "swing the boom", as the danger came from the boom swinging, not going up and down.

So I found this....

"To address the dangers associated with the boom, some designers have raised the boom higher off the deck".

That made more sense.

The rebus was a little vague. I spent some time trying to relate it to an explosive noise but the sloping letters made that a no no. The clue helped .👍
