Not living in the USA I just wondered how you get your pension. Is it in
a payment book and you go to the post office?
I get my pension into my bank account so I would have thought that
you start at the beginning by getting a bank account to have your pension
put in and from there they would probably give you a visa or mastercard.

Do you own your own house or have you got bills for the electric or gas.
These things can help towards getting a bank card. Plus a chat with your
bank manager.

I also use online banking. Pretty weird system with the HSBC as I have to use a strange plastic card to generate password numbers before I can log in.

I wouldn't advocate anyone to use online banking unless their computer systems are secure. I even go so far as to suggest to some that they have more than one computer where the 'banking' one is rarely used except for 'safe' practices, with the other used for general online surfing use as it will invariably get infected with some nasty or other.

Have a look at Santander's 123 current account.

I think you need £500 per month income for one of these accounts and the interest is good.
