Re: Over 50's Wales club (part 6)

Took Rob to the dentist this morning - and found a parking place - hooray! Collected the little boys from the bus and since tea I've been getting a few things ready for our Autumn Competition Day (Saturday). Also making industrial quantities of casserole to go with baked potatoes for everyone's lunch on the day. Off to Brecon Cathedral tomorrow morning, but should think the visitor season must be coming to an end. Will keep the minute's silence for Aberfan before I go.

Nice crisp morning.
How quickly the 50yrs since Aberfan happened.I was living outside Birmingham when I heard about the tragedy and I felt I had to get back to Wales which I did.I will observe the minute silence this morning.

I remember Aberfan as if it was last year. My husband was just going to collect his brothers to take their lorry and shovels etc to go and help when it came on the news asking people to stop coming as all the roads were getting blocked .So sad xx
lovely sunshine here . Been to Doc who was pleased with my progress so carry on with the meds for now

Re: Over 50's Wales club (part 6)

We held a minutes silence at 11am this morning for Aberfan......had to be at that time as people were on their way to class at 9.15.
I was at a funeral this afternoon for my friend Sue ...I met her when I started linedance in 2003 and as she lived locally we met up for lunch with 2 others on a fairly regular basis. while we were waiting to go into the chapel I recognised a famous face.....Philip Lowrie (Dennis Tanner ).....Sue met him when she was 11 after writing him a fan letter and they became friends.....he read a lovely poem. I had a chat with him and you could see he was really upset about Sue...

Re: Over 50's Wales club (part 6)

I actually kept the minutes silence as I was driving to Brecon. On duty in the Cathedral this morning. Not many visitors and then suddenly a group of children from the Priory Primary School across the road came in and asked if they could read the prayers they had written for the families of Aberfan. I was so impressed with them and the few visitors who were there all stopped and listened. Needless to say I was in a heap and had to fish out the hanky!

Good morning everybody blue skies here at the moment. I have my niece staying and she is 41 and had never heard of Aberfan. I explained it to her and she was a bit upset.
