Eastern Rosella

I am trying to draw the birds that come on the deck .
This is a WIP of an Eastern Rosella .
They are rather like a big budgie .
It’s colours are amazing and difficult to reproduce their iridescence .

Re: Eastern Rosella

They are a lovely bird though locally they seem to be replaced in numbers by the rainbow lorikeet.

Rosella brand used to be in the supermarkets but they went broke, don't know who owns them now.

Re: Eastern Rosella

I have only seen two of them to date although the Crimson Rosellas come every day .
They seem rather nervous little birds
There are rainbow lorikeets here too they are not nervous at all and see off much bigger birds .

Yes I think Rainbow Lorikeets, Long Billed Corellas and Noisy Miners are taking over the suburbs, Sulphur Crests and Wattle birds are the only birds they can't seem to dislodge

Thank you Azure and Mags .
Bruce you are probably quite used to all these exotic birds I find them fascinating.
This morning we were awoken up by a whole troop of those sulphur crested Cockatoos they are incredibly noisy but what a wonderful sight !

I forgot to say that I did admire your drawing.

Sulphur Crests and parrots in general are lovely to look at but all they do is screech - not a song bird or pleasant sound among them. I think the Magpie makes the loveliest sound that I always associate with Australia but I have a soft spot for a Willy Wagtail as they are fascinating to watch.

If I sound like I know something about birds let me assure you that I don't, I merely carry two bird books in my car which helps me identify birds as I travel plus of course I watch those I see in my garden but apart from being able to identify some I know bugger all about them.
