Re: Down your way (or possibly up your way)

In New York the Streets run in one direction, west to east I think
The Avenues are north to south
So they would know that someone was heading north on 5th Avenue...
Or East on 22nd Street....
Or vice versa
I think
It's as clear as mud isn't it?
I think I'll head over to Chester today!
Or I may go up to Liverpool!!!

How do they know which direction it is?
You have heard of a "compass"?

I've heard the "Moulin Rouge" was a glorified knocking shop during the last part of the 19th. century. Now I understand what all that "Can Can" was all about!

That's not my point, anyone can tell directions if they have gadgets that are for that purpose but some can just do it naturally.
Do they have an instinctive navigation system like migratory birds?
Have some of us lost that ability?
Is there a trick to it, if you know one please share!

Re: Down your way (or possibly up your way)

I'm another with no sense of direction. Hopeless. Where I think I have to go, its always in the opposite direction.

I can usually find my way to places if I look beforehand where to go and providing the street signs are helpful. Half the time I discover I've followed the signs ok, but they didn't indicate that you need to change lanes when you get round the bend or something

Coming back is a another story... I'm so pleased to have found my way there, I assume it'll be easier to get back. Not the case. Then I get lost

I've relatives down south, and they always say 'when are you coming up?'. Up!!!??? As I live North it's DOWN!!!
