Labour climb 26 points to match Tories in opinion polls

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/worl...olls-1.4342148

Labour is now level-pegging with the Conservatives, according to the latest Opinium poll for the Observer, which shows the Tories have lost a massive 26-point lead in the five months since March.

The survey - which puts the two main parties on 40 per cent of the vote (the Conservatives are down two points and Labour up one point on a fortnight ago) - will cause further alarm in Tory ranks as internal unrest over the performance of Boris Johnson’s government grows.

An Opinium poll at the end of March put them on 54 per cent of the vote, and Labour on 28 per cent.

In the same poll at the end of March a large majority of people (65 per cent) approved of the way the government had handled the Coronavirus crisis, while 23 per cent disapproved.

Five months on, after the UK became one of the worst performing nations and ministers executed a string of policy U-turns, the proportion approving has more than halved to 31 per cent, and that disapproving has more than doubled to 47 per cent.

Boris and his front bench should be ashamed of themselves and this is from someone who voted for them, but to be fair, Corbyn was NOT a viable alternative

Whatever party was in power, they'd have been ripped to shreds for their handling of the situation.

Labour win polls, the Conservatives win elections.

Only if they made a complete dog's dinner of their response, resulting in, for example, the worst death rate in Europe, 66,000 excess deaths and the worst economic downturn among the G7, with U-turns on policy every other day .....

Coronavirus: PM's U-turns create a 'climate of uncertainty', says Conservative

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53962883
Boris Johnson's string of U-turns are unsustainable and have created a "climate of uncertainty", a senior Conservative politician has warned.

Charles Walker, deputy chair of the 1922 Committee, said it was becoming "increasingly difficult" for Tory MPs to defend government policy.

The government has made several U-turns, most recently on face masks in schools and the grading of exams.

In an interview with the Observer, Mr Walker said: "Too often it looks like this government licks its finger and sticks it in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. This is not a sustainable way to approach the business of governing and government.

"It is becoming increasingly difficult for backbenchers now to promote and defend government policy as so often that policy is changed or abandoned without notice. Whether this approach is by design or by accident, the climate of uncertainty it creates is unsustainable and erodes morale."
He might very well say that; I couldn't possibly disagree .....

Hi

The Daily Mail has turned against him.

That takes some doing.
