UK - US different word, same meaning

We did this a while ago on our sister forum Catsey, and it was rather fun.

US - baby carriage
UK - pram

US -elevator
UK - lift

etc! It's surprising how many of them there are.

Something I noticed which I think has come over from the USA and has become 'fashionable' here .
A 'sink' in the UK is to be found in the kitchen and a 'washbasin' or 'handbasin' are found in a bathroom/lavatory or cloakroom.

The 'sink' seems to have migrated and can now be found in bathroom or lavatory..

Sorry I don't have time to look it up but someone once said "Two nations divided by a common language"

Or words to that effect, I expect (hope) someone will find the correct quote and author.

It's been attributed to Oscar Wilde or George Bernard Shaw, with the latter being the most likely.
