Funny you should say that we did initially have quite a few came out all confused that had to be dealt with, husband and son came to the rescue thankfully.

I'd worry about their ear drums.

It's like those mole repellents that make a noise.
Animals hear things we can't.

Think I'll stick to my Lakeland spider/insect catcher.
I posted the link back in post 8.
They are really good.

I think they are fine with dogs, but do check. We've had cats and used one with no problems at all. but not small pets like mice, hamsters etc.

You can buy adjustable ones, so if you do have a dog with particularly sensitive hearing, you can tone it down.

Re: Arachnophobia

All spiders in my house are called Horace.

They range from little tiny Horaces to big 'airy Horaces.

I don't have a problem with them, I don't mind catching and evicting them (I use the glass and card method) but it's usually a race as to who gets to them first between me and the dog, she will eat them unfortunately

The other day I evicted a big hairy one from the bath, I gently dropped him onto the conservatory roof from the window, he scuttled away. The next day there was one on the kitchen floor, I'm not 100% convinced it's not the same one which has come back in via the conservatory window.

I have failed to catch him/her, it keeps hiding under the fridge.

I see, thanks PL.
With animals heightened senses it bothers me.

It's like these essential oil diffusers some people use.
You've got to know what you're doing with them, as some oils are toxic to cats and dogs, let alone pet birds.

There's a list here if anyone is interested:

We do however, have a plug in pest repeller that lets off an ultra sonic shriek that insects can't stand and we get very few inside.
Are they safe for dogs? If so, where can I get them?

I’ve ordered from Amazon. But they are available elsewhere. And yes, I checked the blurb before hand.

Re: Arachnophobia

For those who may be interested the Horse Chestnut is reckoned to keep a house free of spiders, something contained in them that spiders dislike.

Horse Chestnuts should be ready to collect in a while, these are obviously free so perhaps worth giving them a try if you have nothing more certain as a repellant.

That particular 'remedy' plus nine others are to be found on the link below:
