Pulse rate fitness test..

They say the lower your heart rate is - the fitter you are.
In Casualty tonight they bought a young woman in with a resting heart rate of 40 ... Just out of curiosity I found this chart & tested my own pulse rate. - Not bad at all - 64 beats per minute.

Here's the chart if you want to test your fitness. Remember it must be a resting heart rate... No good if you've been walking about.

Just had a quick check and I am 'Average'. I'm content with that. It's better than 'Poor' anyway.

Re: Pulse rate fitness test..

I'm still in the low 50s even though I have been inactive with regard to running for a few months and eating all the wrong foods plus boozing.

At 40 my pulse rate was very low 30s! I ran (and won) a 10km race at 40 in a time of 31mins 25 secs - beat that!

Hey, that chart is all wrong. Look at it closely and you will see the wrong readings for various age groups.

Re: Pulse rate fitness test..

My pulse rate, oxygen sats and blood pressure are always that of an athlete, so I've been told. It surprises me as I'm overweight. They do say that the walking probably helps.

Gives a chance for a few smuggies to boast about their superiority.

Re: Pulse rate fitness test..

Im excellent to athlete and I know my BP is on the lower end of normal my cholesterol is low and my blood sugar is excellent too.
The only thing is, that since I developed thyroid issues Ive suffered weight gain and my BMI is 30-32
Other than that my stats are better than those of my 26 yr old daughter who is a size 8.

I know these things because she and I are part on a long term medical study into how we age.
They provide me with a yearly physical taking all of the above stats and more ..
The last time all my stats were looked at the nurse looked at me and said 'wow theres a healthy thin person inside you'..

I felt like belting her..
