Re: Thank God We are Out of the EU ...
There are increasing calls for Von der Leyen's removal today as well as pretty much universal condemnation globally of the handling of the whole sorry saga by the EU.
Meanwhile the UK (and Boris in particular) have remained calm and dignified and have not responded in a like fashion to the EU, which has made the EU's failures all the more starkly obvious.
It does now appear that tensions have receded with Liz Truss again proving her worth (and increasing her popularity) by obtaining guarantees from the EU that what orders for vaccines the UK has placed will be supplied without disruption.
I don't suppose that the EU really had any choice when, as Nadhim Zahawi has pointed out, the UK has already been helping out with Belgian production difficulties and that the intention always was that the UK would continue to help.
It is doubtful that anybody beyond the most extremist would want to be seen to wish ill on others regarding this awful virus, yet the EU have given the whole world an insight into just how flawed their entire system is from the top down with their protectionist stance doing exactly that.
Here in the UK alone it has certainly changed the thinking and opinion of many who previously thought leaving the EU to be a bad idea, and I'm sure it will make for example customs & border issues be looked at more closely by them to see the real cause for whatever issues persist.
It has also provided the UK with the opprtunity to resolve issues like those without anywhere near as much opposition as they would undoubtedly have seen before.
After all, it is difficult to oppose that which the other party involved has already proposed.
This is not gloating, the extremist EUrophiles and remain supporters should note.
Instead it is a logical explanation of the self-harm which the EU is guilty of and just some of the consequences, of which there will undoubtedly be many more.
