Brumbie cull in Australia

I love horses and much as I love them I can see that unlimited numbers can damage this fragile environment.
Horses are being culled not just here but by the hundreds in the USA.

IMO control would be better than cull but now they are in such numbers . It’s still sad that such beautiful animals will be killed .

Victims of their own success it seems although as I understand it wild pigs do just as much if not more damage and they are protected. I sometimes wonder if we should leave well alone and let nature sort things out... I'm sure there are good reasons for not doing that.....I'm glad I don't have to make those life or death decisions.

As you say... gorgeous creatures

The trouble is these are not indigenous animals they have been brought there by humans.

I know they are wild horses Muddy, but isnt there a way of
gelding them!
After all we can catch and brand cattle and horses why cant we
geld them at the same time?
Like you say it seems so sad to kill them? But l daresay some sort
of industry has been established based on slaughtered horses so
it will be difficult to change things?
BTW, the biggest cause of enviromental damage is the human
being, but we dont control them by culling do we??

Muddy and summer. That story was back in 2016. To my knowledge there was such an outcry that the cull was cancelled. Same as in 2018. My state NSW has banned the practice but our neibor state Victoria will resume culling sometime this year. There needs to be a Federal decision on this as the wild alpine brumbies are iconic to Australia.
