Hs2 Extension??

There has been talk of adding an extension to scotland from the
the groups vying for the contracts to build this white elephant?
Arent they satisfied with what they have got allready?
Will the 106 billion " ESTIMATE" for hs2 cover this extra work??
Or will it be another 50 billion on top??
I still beleve we should cancel the whole shebang before they can
carry out anymore work out on the london/birmingham section
which they seem to be scrambling to get started since Boris gave
the go ahead recently??
The reason for the haste is probably to spend as much as possible
at first in order to make it difficult for goverment to cancel?
It is still uncertain if the 106Billion pays for just the london/birm
section only, or the whole thing up to the north midlands??
So still a lack of clarity?
But the go ahead was given?
The go ahead for WHAT??

Re: Hs2 Extension??

HS2 made sense while we were stuck in the EU but now we are out it makes no sense in terms of ROCE.

Furthermore I believe that most English certain!y don't want any spillage from the craphole that London has become, and the Chinese Plague has shown that travelling in to London is not the essential that it was thought to be so the justification for HS2 has totally evaporated. Beside that we simply can't afford it any more..

As for Scotland, until the demands for independence have been put to bed then I believe that any investment decisions should be frozen

Well said, DM!

Can we imagine what we could do with that 106 THOUSAND MILLION pounds?

We could fix affordable housing and get our youngsters on the ladder.

We could spend it in a dozen ways which would improve the lives of the public.

But, hey, what do we matter?

Nice to see someone agrees with me Ted?
Even more telling is the release of data shows that HS1 only
generates about 427 MILLION per annum??
This on an ivestment of,how much?? and only after twenty odd years of operating on a route where premium fares can be charged?
So what chance has HS2 got of turning a profit on an" investment"
of as you say, of 106,000, 000, ooo millions charging commuter
grade fares! It will take about 100yrs as an ESTIMATE to just get
our money back let alone make a profit?
How come politicians seem unable to simple sums?
Maybe theres something l dont know??

As well as the examples of where the money could be used more effectively Ted, I also believe that updating the current network would be more beneficial and a lot cheaper, especially when it's moving goods we should be concentrating on and not people. Lets get some of those lorries off the roads; as well as being more efficient, moving goods by rail is far less polluting.

Oh no. How to give the ginger minger ANOTHER reason to have a go at Boris when he says "no can do" regarding an HS2 extension to Scotland.
