I see the chief honcho of HS2 is claiming once again that the
HS2 will save a lot of lorry traffic and deisel pollution?
How can this be if HS2 purely for passengers??
So many bullshyters around!

Where was it stated that the HS2 line was for passenger use only? Not saying it wasn't but I must have missed it.

I can't imagine why you would want to knock 20 minutes off the time it takes to deliver a million tins of baked beans from London to Brum Todger......... And are high speed trains capable of carrying sufficient cargo to take many lorries off the road.

However:-

Promoters of Britain’s new high-speed railway say that freight will benefit from more paths and capacity, freed up by the 80 billion British pounds (94 billion euros) project, but that may well depend on completing the northern phases of the line.

But;-

HS2 to be delayed by up to five years as cost spirals to up to £88bn
Parliament told first phase from London to Birmingham could be pushed back to 2031

Apparently freight will not be seen on the line until the northern section is completed....

Hi

A simple view of life.

Bollox to HS2.

Spend the money on Local Services, in particular the Trans Pennine Routes.

The Earth dos not revolve around London.

Better yet don't spend the money. Now more than ever it, and a great deal more is unaffordable.

See, present infrastructure relies on fossil fuel and that is coming to an end (for whatever reason a person chooses to believe). I ain't sure on this one but HS2 will probably run on Leccy.

You are right Todgy, but if it was for freight they wuld not have missed
the opportunity to push that aspect of the project in their
extensive promotional shyte on the project wuld they??
On top of all this, just this week in parliament serious doubts were
cast on the abiity of the commitee to control ever growing costs??
I fear we are being robbed?
If private interests want to build it?
Private interests should fund it!!

ABSOLUTELY agree re PFI. My only concern is the ability of anyone in the present crop of civil servants to write a decent contract.
