Removing search engines in Chrome.

McAfee is on the infiltrate, bringing Yahoo with it (?)

But I can't figure out how to delete it. I've followed the instructions:

Click the "Chrome menu" button and choose "Settings". In the "Search" section, click the "Manage search engines..." button. In the opened window, remove the unwanted Internet search engine by clicking the "X" button next to it.

but I don't see the "X" button.

Have a look in 'Programs and Features' (Control Panel) to see if McAfee is mentioned there. If so, remove if you don't want it and then try the browser settings.

Thanks mart, but under Search Engines I've got 4 I don't want.

And under Other Search Engines, about 10.

Yahoo is the only one causing trouble.

I'm not familiar with what search engine McAfee wants you to use if you install the program or any of its components. If McAfee has sneaked in, it might be something to do with that, hence the suggestion. It's easy to check in Programs and Features anyway. Explore all avenues even if it turns out not to be anything to do with the problem.

McAfee is awful to get rid of.
I gave up on my old laptop, I didn't install it on my latest one.

Under Programs & Features, I have McAfee WebAdvisor

I don't know where that came from, but I think I'll keep it. I pops up about once/year to warn me a site may not be safe.

Under Programs & Features, I don't have Yahoo

Under Chrome Menu > Settings > Search Engine ....

it says:"Google Chrome is your default browser"

but it's not ... anymore.

under Manage Search Engines it say

Secure Search (Default) Mcafee.

Under Manage search engines

To the right of the search engine, click the vertical ellipsis (3 dots) and then select Remove from list.

On your computer, click the Start menu .

Click Settings .

Open your default apps:

• either: Click System and then Default apps.
• or: Click Apps and then Default apps.

At the bottom, under "Web browser," click your current browser (typically Microsoft Edge).

In the "Choose an app" window, click Google Chrome.

Ah, I've got it!

There's a place that says:

Next to /Secure Search/ there's a drop down arrow to select your default search engine. If I just leave the "Secure Search" words there I get Yahoo, but if I select Google then that's my address bar default search engine. Success.
