I explored this several years back.
There are only certain solicitors who will comply, and you have to check whether there is one in your area.
There are none local to me who do this service.

Age UK also do this, and it is hoped you will leave a certain amount (usually a percentage of your estate) to the Charity in return for providing the service.

I believe this offer only lasts for one month. The current free wills offer is only for March.
I think some places offer it again in October as well.

Here is some more info:

In this link, you will be able to see if there is a participating solicitor in your area:

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is .
There will be a catch in what is advertised as a “ free will “ .

There is also something called ' Will Aid ' who will help you with your Will.

https://www.willaid.org.uk/

Again though, the 'Catch' if you like, is you are sort of expected to leave something to one of the chairities supporting the offer.

Personally, I think that is fair enough. It costs them to fund this if they pay the solicitor for you, so isn't it only fair to help them back in return?

Of course it’s fair but some might not be aware of it. Just saying not criticising .

Re: I made my will

It was previous threads by Muddy, that l made my will. I had kept putting it off but finally made the effort.
I went to a local solicitor, l wasn’t going to mess around with a ‘do it yourself’ will from WH Smith!

The only bit l found distressing was when they asked me to go in to check the will. I must say, seeing the cover with the words, ‘Final Will And Testament Of... in wording like it was off a tombstone, slightly upsetting.

My friend made a will free via a charity but was asked to leave them something. She has left them an expensive ring.

Mups, but it’s not ‘free’ if they ask you to leave them something. I know, you’re not obligated but you are rather under an obligation to do so.
