Stonehenge?

This one arrived recently.

It looks like an aerial shot of Stonehenge but it must be quite old?
.

.

I believe they are revamping the general area around the stones to facilitate the ever increasing visitor numbers.

If only we could go back in time to view what it was all about.?

Re: Stonehenge?

I went on a school trip to visit Stonehenge many, many years ago ...... it was completely open then, no barriers whatsoever and we were able to touch the stones...

Re: Stonehenge?

Not far down the road is Avebury, Silbury Hill and the West Kennet Long Barrow - all as (if not more) impressive than Stonehenge, and all totally free to walk in, on and around. Well worth a visit.

Re: Stonehenge?

Stonehenge, memories come flooding back to me of my childhood when you could walk right up to them. WE visited when I was about 7 & my dad drove a FORD 8 motor car.
Unfortunately my dad backed into one of the stones & they all went over like Dominoes. We put them back as best we could but they were so heavy.

In the 1990''s I hosted many foreign students & one of their MUST SEE places was Stonehenge. For such an important site the facilities are very poor & as the main road is about 100 yds away, there seems little point in paying to go in.

The hype for stonehenge is full of romantic, vividly coloured still shots, the reality is that it's cold, windy, wet & grey.
