Re: Why do we judge
Interesting question....its a bit of snobbery really isn't it? The class system kicking in. I am better than you because I do "xyz" and you....well...you just do that. Personally I don't care what you do for a living, I'm more about the actual person. Someone said to me once "oh...but your job isn't that hard, you just work in a shop" and I said "Have you ever done that yourself - its so much more than selling things!"Re: Why do we judge
I know exactly what you mean Primus. I've always been a bit uncomfortable socialising/chatting with professional people. Myself having left school at 15 & worked in a factory.Re: Why do we judge
That’s the thing though carol, you got to know them, many people would assume that someone being a dr, must be a better person because of that, without getting to know them, once they did, they might not like who they are, it’s the same of people with money, some are rude snobs who won’t give you the time of day, others are really nice and treat others with respectRe: Why do we judge
The £10 in my pocket or wallet is the same as anyone else's, how I chose to earn that is my choice, how another person chose to earn their £10 is up to them. I am as good as the next person, if they choose to believe otherwise then that is both their problem and an undeniable indication of their shallowness as a person!Re: Why do we judge
When I was seated on a plane returning from Malta some years ago, a pompous gent said of his companion to no-one in particular ‘she’s a retiiiiiiiiired academic.’ So what, thought I. Now she was seated beside me, with someone unknown to her on the end, and it was to this person she directed her whole attention for the flight. So she may have been a retiiiiiiiiiired academic, but seemed not to have many social manners.Re: Why do we judge
Re: Why do we judge
I believe some people like to know what others do for a living because it is a perceived way of establishing superiority or inferiority. To many a person's occupation is a way of calculating status and initially estimating where people fit into society, at least until they get to know them better. We tend to judge what people wear in a similar way, where they live and what car they drive - status. In the animal world bums, noses are sniffed and note is taken of size, condition, etc., pretty primitive stuff really, I think. In humans it is more subtle and sophisticated.Re: Why do we judge
