Is it ever too late to learn?

These days I find myself thinking about subjects I'd like to know more about. In more detail. Maybe it's an age thing . I'm just sorry I didn't do it before, but then life circumstances take over.

Is it ever too late to take up a new subject and study it in depth?

I'm soon to be reading a scientific book on the reasons why music has such a profound effect on us.......should be interesting.

Sounds good Alan. Too scientific for me . My eldest son has a degree in music and audio technology and takes a huge interest in everything about music and the effects. Hope you enjoy it.

My partner is studying an online animal behaviour programme, which he is finding interesting. That's what's making me wonder what I should study - if I still have the grey matter

I don't think it is ever too late to learn - so long as you are passionate about the topic, you can do it

That does sound interesting, I'm guessing it's because it affects the parts of the brain which deal with emotions, but how does it do that .......will be interesting to hear what you think when you've read it.

I don't think that anyone needs to stop learning but some people definitely seem to stop. I love learning new things and I hope I never stop (until, of course, time stops me!).

I've become increasingly interested in Scottish history. Also world geography. Maybe I should take a night class with the winter months coming in.

I was thinking along these lines the other day Alice.

What prompted my thoughts was the fact that I want to give up working in a couple of years, (697 days!), because I think I've done enough in my life now.

I've decided that I will have to find myself a hobby that tides me over when I can't get out in the garden but at the moment I've no ideas other than an insatiable appetite to learn something new.

I've always been like that so perhaps I'll study anthropology or something similar because people fascinate me and I've met so many in lots of different countries over the years.

We are learning from the moment we are born out of necessity so it's a natural thing and I doubt we will ever get to the point where we do not learn.

I think that when people say they're too old to learn it's confidence in themselves and their abilities that they lack but also, as you say, life circumstances can take over so there's never the time! stevmk2

I doubt that anyone is too old to learn but the problem is more one of apathy that lack of braincell

Probably true Rachel. My friend said to his 89 year old mother recently that he felt his memory was letting him down. "It's laziness she said". Positive way to be
