Very bad that she was discharged with canulas in situ.

Sorry Pats, I babble on and didn't explain properly. In the early days after diagnosis Mum used to have transfusions about every 3 months, then it got to 2 months and eventually as her illness progressed, they were not even lasting 2 months, so monthly ones were advised. (She has always refused Chemo). Then sometimes when she got to the hospital they hadn't cross matched her blood or even ordered any even though they had a sample the day before.
This made it a very long day from early in the morning, just hanging about for hours before they even started. She got so fed up with it, especially as the blood now didn't perk her up as much anymore, she told the consultant she wasn't going in anymore. She refused so many monthly appts. that she became very ill and anaemic. Then in February this year she was whisked into hospital again and while she was there, they offered her a transfusion and I suppose because she felt so awful, she agreed. She then felt quite a bit brighter and I remember saying to her I couldn't understand why she didn't want to feel like that all the time, and I couldn't see why anyone would choose to feel worse than they have to.But when they let her back home, she went back to refusing the next 4 transfusions again! That's why she was lacking oxygen and couldn't breathe this weekend, and why we (me and the carer), called 111.

Thanks for the explanation Mups.

Your Mum really does need those transfusions.

I know Pats, but I can't force her can I, I can't control somebody else, and at the end of the day, sad though it is - it is her choice. I'm at my wits end with her sometimes because she is so stubborn, or maybe she is just giving up. . . she knows she is going to die whether she has transfusions or not.
What would you do if it was your Mum?
What would any of you do if it was your Mum?

You are right, Mups, You can't force her as it is her choice. The current pattern seems to be that she accepts them only when she has to be admitted for some other problem like falls etc.I think that is all you can do. Although she needs the transfusions, it is her right to refuse them yet she seems to accept them when she is in hospital.I gues you just have to go with that.

Yes, I do have to go with it mostly Ania, even though I'm not happy about it most of the time. It's not good to see her getting worse and worse, and I take stuff home with me if I'm not careful (I mean mentally). That's why I need to take a day or two off when I get the chance.
Anyway, we'll see what tomorrow brings. . . . x
