Massage

Hubby and I are going to start getting monthy massages, and are searching for a reasonalbly priced licenced therapist. Has anyone found them helpful as far as increasing health, mobility, or just general well being?

Re: Massage

Massage, and especially that of the lymphatic system is excellent. There are some massage techniques you can do yourself (they are actually part of my diet/health regime I commented about in other threads).

You might also want to get a rebounder as that too is excellent for the lymphatic system (just gentle rebounding is fine).

Other things to try are regular walking in the fresh air/sunshine and going for regular saunas.

Re: Massage

I used to have them regularly, I found I'd get so relaxed that when I tried to get up I would shake uncontrollably, put me off.

Re: Massage

No "lymphatic or rebound stuff" as an option Azz.. You get Deep tissue... or Swedish... or some voo-doo done with hot rocks and sticks.. whatever they do with the sticks.. I'm not going to find out.

I have had a deep tissue massage before, and it's a little too rough for me. I had to keep telling them to use less pressure and muscle squeezing because it hurt. So to start off, we will be having the Swedish massage with firm pressure. I have never gotten regular massages and wonder if they work to ease aches and pains if done on a regular basis.

As for walking... I do at least 1-2 miles a day.. sometimes three.

Re: Massage

A rebounder is like a mini trampoline - you can get them pretty cheap, I think I paid about £12 for mine like this:

Lol @ UJ

Audrey, have a look at this video - it's a bit cheesy, but still worth a watch...

Re: Massage

I went to a young woman for a while who did sports massages and she would massage my neck, shoulders and back. Sometimes I found it painful, but when I walked out of her door all the stress and tension had gone. I would recommend it!

Re: Massage

I had my neck and shoulders massaged once and felt a burning sensation after it and felt a bit sick. A couple of hours later I felt much better and less tense.
I had a full body massage and it was lovely, especially with relaxing music in the background.
It's a nice treat to yourself to have a massage.
