Epilepsy and flashing images (split thread)

I do wish people who are not medical consultants would stop posting fear thoughts regarding epilepsy. I have grand mal epilepsy which I have had since a very young girl. It is controlled.

A computer was a necessity in my line of work for many, many years. The only time I experienced a problem was after I had used the computer for a period of twelve hours without proper breaks which was down to my stupidity.

For those people who have epilepsy on here and want to use animations....simply consult your specialist. I think you will find you would have to spend a considerable time looking at a flashing animation before it would have any effect on you. The people who are photosensitive are made aware of any dangers and would act responsibly.

I don't bother with animations, not coz of medical issues, I just can't be arsed.

I have a family member with epilepsy who has been on medication all his life but is still affected badly by any flashing lights, even fireworks. Not everyone can have it controlled.

And some of us do.

Epilepsy doesn't just take one form, it is a very complex condition.

Mags is correct.

I'd agree but there's always two sides to a story and understanding it from someone who is affected by the condition can help rather than hinder

You obviously have a great deal of knowledge on this condition Pat's. Perhaps you could comment on the different forms and how each form could be affected by animations. Which type of epilepsy do you suffer from, mine started with petite mal but developed into grand mal.

I was talking about the condition being controlled through medication.
