Loneliness in later life

An early retirement is wonderful if you have someone to share it with, but when two becomes one it is quite frankly daunting. The children have long gone and busy with their lives, just the odd visit and phone call, the question is, what to do, when you are not quite as fit as you used to be but not ready to give up.

Re: Loneliness in later life

Hello Ventura - I'm confined to my flat mostly but I do have my Hubs.
I lost friends because I could no longer socialise. If I were without him, that would be my life.
I hope to have friendship via this forum, music is precious to me and helps.
I am unable to have a pet here, so that's unfortunate, but on here, I can share the pets of others with their stories and pictures.

As for you me darling, I hope you find a friend that you can share your life with, hard to find I know - I'm still looking

Even when you are married life can get lonely , i go on day trips, and help out at church . Try U3A theres one in most towns and villages ,they run groups for the retired,im sure they will have one to interest you .

Yes I agree,it is very daunting when You are alone in later Life,..Like Ventura,My Children are all Married or with Partners, and Their Families are all grown too,Eldest Daughter lives 500 Mls away in Kent so rarely see Her or G/Kids except on Skype which is great...When I retired I did the usual things like joining the Gym',Gallivanting on Bus/train trips with Friends, etc'..but one or two Friends have died, and I've just not been able to make new Friends unfortunately, not easy at this age I'm afraid...So I have to be content with having a blether with Neighbours, gardening, reading, walking, and twice weekly visits from Son/Daughter...No U3A in My Area, wish there was

Yes Thank You Patsy,I'm sure I will be ...I'm also an introverted Aquarian,so don't particularly relish organised groups/cliques etc'. .I'm fortunate in a way as I like My Own Company, and can lose Myself in books, music etc',but do miss a good old natter with a Pal.
