Many bridal wear places have clothes for the mums, so you may see something there. Whatever you choose, make sure it is something you really think you look good in...because all eyes will be on the bride that day, but yours will also be on yourself when the photos are received.

Good advice Twink. A dress and long jacket sounds good. Thermals underneath!!

I had a poster created by our eldest daughter for Mother's Day a year or two back. It featured fairly recent photos of me riding a cannon, sitting on a wartime gun battery, crawling out of a play tunnel, standing next to a Roman soldier with his arm around me before my 60th Birthday bash, and my arms around our tiger. The caption read, 'Some mothers are normal, then there is mine!'

I would say, buy something you can wear again in normal life (whatever that is!)
I spent a lot of money on a Ann Balon mother of the bride outfit. It is beautiful but what's the good, it just hangs in my wardrobe for me to look and admire it! If l wore it to the supermarket, they'd laugh me out the door.
It was an utter waste of money!

I have heard that John Lewis have a service to help you choose but I imagine that would be expensive.
Hi. The personal shopping service in both John Lewis and Debenhams is totally free.
I've heard and read great reviews from both.

Take your footwear with you if that's what you know you will wear!

You are under no obligation to buy what they suggest...I think it sounds fun!

If you really want to go for designer stuff why not hire an outfit for the day?

There are agencies that deal in that kind of thing.
