Re: Driving after 70.

Whilst at work parked in the works car park a regular visitor damaged my car, I knew it was him as he left red paint all down the drivers side as he scraped my car. I had not seen it happen but in the past watched him trying to park . I rang the local police and asked them to check out his driving as felt he was an accident waiting to happen. The police lady rang me the next day to say he was 92 years old , she made him read number plates 3 times and he got it right. They said they could not stop him driving though even though they were concerned at his slow reflexes. Lucky for me I was able to t cut the red paint and scratches out of my car, they ran from front to back.

I'm actually a good driver but you try to remember the whole Highway Code and I doubt you'd be able to answer all the questions correctly. Even the youngsters today find it difficult as it's much more advanced than it used to be.

My initial post referred to sitting the test again over 70 which I wouldn't do, the bus pass would enable me to go wherever I wanted so I wouldn't need to drive

I agree Honey I always said it was a fluke I passed the idea of taking a test again would stop me driving and I have never (touch wood) had an accident that was my fault in over 30 years driving. I see people who passed first time and are super confident causing far more "accidents" then me.

Re: Driving after 70.

The day I took my driving test there were 3 guys at the test centre and I was the only one who passed first time!
We all develop our own way of driving and for many it's not by following the highway code, that goes out of the window when they've passed their test.

It's said the younger generation are more likely to cause accidents than our generation because many are speed freaks and I'd agree with that

As drivers we are responsible to keep up and be aware of the changes and additions to the rules and laws of the road.

The Highway Code is not just for learners.

Re: Driving after 70.

Experience is worth a lot more than words in a book on many occasions. No matter how much someone knows about driving from books it cannot match the many years of experience many of us have.

A free driving test every three years at 70+ should be compulsory. Good drivers have nothing to worry about, do they.
