27 pilgrims killed!

India stampede 'kills 27 pilgrims' in Andhra Pradesh
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-33518240

Isn't it amazing the belief systems in the world and how powerful such entrenched ideas are. Here we have 27 people trampled to death / drowned in a mad rush ...

And look at the number of pilgrims - 24 million! Really scarey who believes what and why.

Re: 27 pilgrims killed!

It must have started many hundreds of years ago when just an handful went to that River and from there multiplied ..It happens in different cultures ,but not on mass in one place like that ..

" Reports of cannibalism and other horrific acts of violence have surfaced in the Central African Republic as Christian militias went on the rampage following the resignation of the country's Muslim president.

..... Christian mobs destroyed mosques and attacked Muslim neighbourhoods in the capital Bangui.
Sectarian violence has already claimed more than 1000 lives in the Central African Republic in the past month and witnesses spoke yesterday of how a machete-wielding gang ate parts of the body of a Muslim man after attacking him on Tuesday."

This is a human tragedy not religion, we have seen it happen in discos and football matches. Lack of organisation and humans behaving badly.

Not really. These people are pilgrims with a belief not people turning out to view some event or other.

What is scarey to me isn't so much the tragedy but the number of people who consider bathing in some stinky water will wash away their sins. Now that is unsettling. But couldn't this be applied right across the board with regard to religious fervor? All utterly bonkers?

Have a listen

Living as we used to live won't be enough from now on:
Giving as we used to give won't be enough from now on.

Thinking as we used to think won't be enough from now on:
Knowing as we thought we know won't be enough from now on.
Are we chosen, are we guarded on this journey through the dark?
There is no-one reall knows – th old order is past.

Seeing as we used to see won't be enough from now on:
Loving as we used to love won't be enough from now on.
Miracles and revelations we must learn to do wihtout,
There's a journey in your soul – all the rest is but a dream.

Praying as used to pray won't be enough from now on:
Faith that guided us before won't be enough from now on.
Find another way, find another way, from within, and not without.
In the loneiliness of space gather strength from yourselves.

Living as we used to live won't be enough from now on:
Giving as we used to give won't be enough from now on.

Re: 27 pilgrims killed!

I was lucky enough to have spent nine weeks backpacking in India and read all the books warning of "culture shock" etc, alas nothing can prepare you for the; crowds, noise, pollution and the hellish Kafkaesque bureaucracy that you encounter in an Indian city.

Indian City (Delhi and Bombay) = Hell on earth

Beyond the Indian City = Heaven on earth
