Windows Update again

I was fed up with the daily 'reminder' from MS that they would "restart my computer out of normal working hours" to install an update.
I usually just ignore it, but I thought that, as things were quiet, I'd "update now".
Good. It only took five minutes.

Then this morning, what should I see:
"Windows will restart your computer out of normal working hours".

I've also noticed that, since I did the last update, it takes several clicks to close a Word document.

Are they surprised that some of us prefer not to take their so-called updates?

Re: Windows Update again

type in the search box "Windows update"
click on " check for update " in blue
click on "change active hours"
turn slider to "off"

that should stop the reminders.
have a look at anything else you might prefer in the drop down list

Re: Windows Update again

9 times out of 10 my monthly updates are painless. Those of my friends with Windows 10, who used to call me to perform updates, no longer require my services since I set their updates to automatic.

However, Windows 10 is now on more than 800 million devices (not all the same) used by (at least) an equal number of users (not all the same) so some "problems" are inevitable.

I may be able to help with your "Word" problem if I know the version .....

Thanks.
The slider is already set to "off".
My active hours are 0800 to 0200, and outside of those hours the computer is turned off, so that's OK.
In Advanced Options I have turned off "Update notifications".

I'll see what happens next! I can't imagine MS will give up completely!

Word 2007
"Word 2007 is now retired", and I'm not buying a new one!

Strangely, the 'failure to close' situation has now ceased.

Re: Windows Update again

Hi

Luckily I have Guy here now.

He sorts all of this and my computers are working well.

He has a 3 screen set up in his bedroom and rents time from Google for his complex programmes.

He is moving his servers here next week.

He is light years ahead of me.

Excellent .....

However, you may want to try a free alternative to MSOffice 2007, which I did on my laptop - I now use FreeOffice:

LibreOffice is also vailable:

Then there's the Google offerings:

Agreed , informs me not to shut down when I click log off. After the updates have been done it shuts down by itself .

Thanks. I also have LibreOffice. It has the advantage of opening all sorts of files, including some old Lotus files I have, and can save them as Word files.
