Yes, the Conservatory has a lot of our hobby stuff in there, and, the specialist saws etc that were purchased partly to make the rafters etc more precisely. When the office is complete, for a short while I will use it as a workshop for the conversion of the conservatory into a new kitchen.

For instance this morning I called a PC expert out as I was quite alarmed ( well panicking to be truthful) that my poor old PC was suffering from severe heat stroke or at worse was letting me know it was condsidering a noisy Dignitas death.

Listening to my PC the expert declared the good news that it was only down to my abuse. Not having a clue what he meant I looked suitabily chastened whilst he cleared years of this that and the other. He was gracious enough whilst clearing dust from the inside fan to say.."at your age I would not expect you to know how to to clean fans etc" so I did feel a tad exonerated....and old.

Result a very clean, quiet and dare I say healthy PC thanks to the expert. He's now my hero
I only know a fraction about using computers Solo, and it'll do me, the little bit I know had to be drummed into me by my Son, he had to write everything down for me, talking on the phone to him when something went wrong was a waste of time, the names of the apps and and all the other terms were the hardest to grasp for me, I had him pestered for months, how he had the patiences with me I’ll never know. Mags and Meg were a great help to me here when I first came, I don’t forget that and I’m forever grateful to them.
My young lad (young lad! he’s 51 today same birth day as his Mother, she was born on the 13th too, good timin' eh ) He came into the computer game fairly late in his life, 30 something, he had been a printer and we all know where that trade went, he went back to school to learn the computer game and he now works servicing them in one of the Worlds biggest financial institutions based here, he says the money is great but he’s on call all the time and has to be available round the clock on his duty.
We’re all going out later for a family get together and maybe, just maybe mind you, a few drinks.

Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

Lets get together for a few drinks..Now where have I heard that before. You don't seem to see these family get togethers as much probably due to families living so far apart. Shame really as once they were a sight to behold and experience in more ways than one.

Venue decided usually by who had the loudest gob and so it began. As kids were also included it had to be a pub with a garden and the first thing to do was bribe us kids to behave with crisp, pork scratchings and pop ..then the womens gossip would begin and the men would gradually slope off in twos to the public bar to talk mens talk till the women noticed they were missing. Then the fun started..

We would watch and wait knowing what was coming. There was always one family floosie who in drink would chat up anything in trousers, one family chap who couldn't handle his drink so thought he could fight the world and his dog, One family aunt who always cried cos she was so happy ( we never understood that either) one family member who knew the lot, one family member who thought he/she was better than the rest..and of course that one family cross to bear who would argue with his own breath given the chance. Each played their part and the outcome depended on how much had been imbibed. Sometimes sunshine, sometimes thunder and lightening. If it was the latter we got ice cream wafers. We called that a guilt treat and if we looked a bit upset we could push for two.

Those get together could end up with nobody talking to anyone for months, tarnished reputations once again and the endless "I don't really mean it promise of I will never touch another drop honest"...but always, despite eye rolling ,it was the same " Can't wait till the next get together"

As they say All good family fun.

Mixed emotion Sweetie, It's a Folly, albeit a factual Folly, for the next owners to work out, BTW, this is not the first time construction has happened to the benefit of the next custodians.

And hopefully, not the last.

Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

Well thankfully all went off well the other night Solo, but I do remember some humdingers with the family in years gone by, especially on the wife’s side, they were a very large family indeed, never a dull moment at weddings, birthdays, births, and even funerals, but to give them their due they always made up afterwards and never held grudges, the best way I think, life’s too short and we’ll all be dead long enough.
There were two elderly brothers who used to come into our local back in the seventies, they hadn’t spoken to each other in over forty years although the pair of them lived in the same cottage a few miles outside the city. The eldest would come into the bar first and sit on “His’ end and the younger sat at “His” end and n’er the twain shall meet as they say.
After their usual two pints the younger would bid us all farewell, go outside and mount his bike and be away home, then the eldest would do the same after about five minutes, what a bloody existence I ask yeh.
Years later when they passed away the bar man was telling me that it all started one freezing cold Winters night, they both had two blankets on their beds and the eldest couldn’t stand the cold anymore so he sneaked over to the other fellas bed in the wee hours and nicked one of his blankets, the next morning the postman heard the two of them taking lumps off each other and called the guards before one of them killed the other, and all over a blanket.
If I had known that at the time I would have tried to conciliate them by telling them to bury the hatchet and “Lay the blanket on the ground”, which is an old Apache term for making love not war.

I send off a PM to RJ to see if he’s alright, no reply as yet, I don’t like sending out PM’s unless I’m answering them, I hate to intrude, but I’m worried about him.

Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

I am the same about PM's. I will simply mirror your concern about RJ..and wait for news...hopefully good. Sometimes when you just want to post quietly, things can get a bit much at our age.

I can't condemn any that hold a grudge for reasons of their own as I don't always know others history...I do however know mine and there are a few that I choose to leave well alone and I exist all the better for doing so otherwise I might just smother em with that Apache Indian blanket you mentioned instead of laying it on the ground.

At the moment I am like a new mother with a baby because my computer since being 'sorted' is so quiet. I keep poking it to make sure it's still alive and breathe a sigh of relief when it responds so I was pleased to see that Alan Turing the Enigma code breaker who was known as the 'Father of computer science'...and would have understood exactly how I feel right now... has been chosen by Bank of England to be the next face on the £50 pound note though how many ordinary folk ever see let alone hold a £50 pound note is any ones guess.

Despite his incalculable achievements he paid such a heavy price for his homosexuality so to see this man rewarded in any way is still only a small reflection of his true value.

It sometimes don't do to rattle a cage, or, pander to a Pandora's pandemonium.

Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

Bit of a take on Pandoras Box being opened in todays news.

Odd story really which makes you think. A thrifty pensioner (some might say tight or canny depending on your point of view) is going to lose her nest egg which is over the £16,000 allowed which she has squirrelled away over the years.

Due to her being in arrears to the council to the tune of £28,000 the council have confiscated her secret pot of gold and court proceeding will take place.

Hmmmmmm... lets think about this. Kids are up in arms. Think the whole thing is callous because they say their Mum has learning difficulties but they must have been aware of the situation as she he has carers in twice a day.. and claims all the benefits.

Somethings wrong with this kind of thinking....because one things for sure you can't have your cake and eat it, nor should you, not in todays world. Mind you if you can get away with it...just saying like. .

Many years ago I was advised by a 'man who knows' 'that after a certain age to spend, spend, spend as it would not pay to have too much from then on. I met him halfway on that advice but his words came back when reading this. .
