Saracens - champions of europe
Brilliant week for UK Sport. The heroics of Liverpool and Spurs to win their way against the odds to the European Cup Final was amazing enough, but the incredible performance of England's best Rugby Union team to wrest the European Champions Cup from the grasp of four time winners Leinster on Saturday evening was a fantastic achievement. Five minutes from half time, Saracens looked done. 10 - 0 down, Maro Itoje in the sin bin and our two first choice props (Mako Vunipola and Titi Lamositele) off with injury.
Then it all turned round. A penalty gave Owen Farrell the chance to kick for a line-out well into the Leinster half and a wonderful backline move including a brilliant dummy from Alex Goode and a brilliant pass from Farrell gave us a try. Farrell's conversion meant that Sarries went in at half time 10 -10.
The second half was all Sarries. It was a brutal, no-holds-barred affair which really epitomised modern rugby and showcased the two best teams in Europe. Now, for Sarries, it is back to the domestic game. One more regular game and then the semi final and (hopefully) the final of the Premiership.
