Just like the sound of the word. Fill me in.
You and Jem are both right. A cobler is (or was) a person who made and repaired shoes. There are very few (if any) such people about now so the word isn't used much.

However, in recent slang " a load of old coblers" has come to mean rubbish and is often used when some ones says something that is wrong or rubbish.

I've no idea how this came about although I suspect it might be connected with Cockney rhyming slang, I'm sure some one will be along shortly to elaborate.

Oh yes, Paula is a beautiful name (For a beautiful person)

You probably won't find them in a regular dictionary!
If anybody's interested:

Quake-buttock - a coward
Flambuginous - of the nature of a 'flam', nonsensical
Pauciloquent - speaking briefly, uttering few words
Unasinous - agreeing in stupidity
Gully-fluff - the fluff, dirt, etc. which accumulates in the pockets

You're absolutely right!
It comes from cobbler's awls - balls.
Eventually just Cobblers! was used as an exclamation, suggesting something was nonsense.
A load of old cobblers is an expansion of that.
It was originally from the East End of London, but was taken to other Commonwealth countries by emigrants.
I heard it in NZ and Australia, and I've heard it in Canada. I use the expression myself.
And that's no cobblers!

I used to love calling `the thing-cited on my birth certificate` a grobian. Silly old buggar had no clue what I was talking about.
