Scientific developments

I read in the paper today that scientists in Baltimore have made a mini human brains in test tubes, and these tiny brains can think for themselves.
They have been 'grown' from human cells in just 8 weeks.

A Prof.Thomas Hartung said a brain was put on electrodes and drugs added, producing electrical signals. He said "It's starting to produce a primitive type of thinking. Neurons trying to communicate with each other."

They are saying it will speed the hunt for cures for dementia.

In other trials for cures for Alzheimers, they say a drug used for cancer treatment can also prevent dementia, because it worked on tests on WORMS!
I find this so hard to believe, because -

(a) How on earth would you know if a worm had dementia?

(b) How can a demented worm respond anything like a humans?

They are hoping to develop this drug for Alzheimers like Statins are for heart disease.

Weird.

Re: Scientific developments

I would love to be around in twenty years time to see what the scientists have come up with.
